Foreign delegates are suggested to travel to Frankfurt by air to International Airport Frankfurt, then by  train(ICE) from Frankfurt airport ("Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf station") to Offenburg ("Offenburg" station). Please use as train station Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf.

5. Introduction of Offenburg

Offenburg is the largest city and the administrative capital of the Ortenaukreis. It is situated in the heart of Europe in between the river Rhine and vineyards, between the Black Forest and the Vosges at the beginning of the Kinzigtal valley. As the centre of an up-and-coming tourism region, the town is making its mark as a prosperous business location, media town and trade fair centre. Offenburg is located approximately 15 km east of the river Rhine between Karlsruhe and Freiburg. The French city of Strasbourg lies directly west across the Rhine. Offenburg lies at the mouth of the Kinzig river valley. The Kinzig flows out of the Black Forest and meets the Rhine near Kehl.     One of the largest and most beautiful festivals in Offenburg, the Ortenau Wine Festival is always held on the last weekend of September. This year it will begin at September 29, 2017. The wine paradise of Ortenau presents its entire range of wines over the course of 4 days. The participating wineries offer 200 wines and sparkling wines, many of which boast several awards. The ambiance of the square around the historical city hall provides the best conditions for an unforgettable and atmospheric wine festival.

 

    The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a molecular biology research institution supported by 22 member states, four prospect and two associate member states. EMBL was created in 1974 and is an intergovernmental organisation funded by public research money from its member states. Research at EMBL is conducted by approximately 85 independent groups covering the spectrum of molecular biology. The Laboratory operates from five sites: the main laboratory in Heidelberg, and outstations in Hinxton (the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), in England), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany) and Monterotondo (near Rome). EMBL groups and laboratories perform basic research in molecular biology and molecular medicine as well as training for scientists, students and visitors. The organization aids in the development of services, new instruments and methods, and technology in its member states.

   

    Strasbourg is the capital and largest city of the Grand Est region of France and is the official seat of the European Parliament. It is the seat of several European institutions. And it is also called the European capital. It is only about 30 minutes away.

  

Travel by plane:

International Airport Frankfurt Offenburg Main Station can be reached via high speed train (ICE) from Frankfurt airport within 90 min. Please use as train station Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf.
